Applied Graphics Provide High-End Aesthetic to Standard Bulletproof Barrier

It’s understandable that many perceive the use of bulletproof glass as obtrusive or ugly. Total Security Solutions CEO Jim Richards travels extensively, and everywhere he goes he sees terrible bulletproof glass installations. These range from awkward angles and ugly finishes to downright dangerous lapses in design. “I see all kinds of stuff all the time,” he sighs, but most bad bulletproof glass installations commit one (or more) fundamental sins: “Bad material, bad installation, or bad design.” At Total Security Solutions, we know what materials to use, how to craft those materials into an aesthetically pleasing bulletproof barrier and install it precisely the first time.

We are especially proud of our work completed at the Brown-Forman corporate headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. After it was determined that the entire lobby area required bulletproof security, we were able to work with them to blend the necessary security with an aesthetically pleasing barrier to make visitors still feel welcome. The use of oversized bullet-resistant glass-clad polycarbonate panels in a butt-glazed system and specialty hardware provided a polished finish to the end product.

Beautifying Bulletproof Glass

The Brown-Forman installation also utilized an outside firm to apply graphics to the bulletproof glass. While there are some limitations to the material, bulletproof glass can be tinted and frosted, as well as made various colors by adding a colored polycarbonate cap sheet as the outer layer of the security glass. Similarly, a film can be added in between the layers to achieve a frosted appearance. Glass-clad polycarbonate is also available with a mirrored finish for outdoor use.

Companies looking to apply a removable logo or other graphic can do so using a special vinyl cling-type material, such as the 3form Glazing material.  These non-adhesive type graphics can easily be applied and later removed without damaging the surface of the bulletproof security glass.

Our knowledgeable sales staff can work with you to design an attractive, custom bulletproof barrier that complements the design of your facility while meeting your security needs. Applying vinyl cling graphics or using frosted bulletproof security glass can provide a high-end, custom aesthetic to a standard ballistic barrier.
