Complete your security profile with invisible, durable forced-entry protection.
Security window film is a thin, clear polyester hardening product that is secured to the existing glass. It’s incredibly strong, so when the glass is struck or shatters, the film holds the glass in place. This makes film an ideal security option for delaying entry, preventing windows from being shot out, and protecting property.
Security window film is not a ballistic product and cannot stop a bullet. We almost always recommend using security window film as part of a robust system that includes bulletproof glass.

The Wet Glaze anchoring system secures the film to the frame using a thick bead of specialized caulk. This anchoring absorbs and disperses the energy from a forced entry or explosion, keeping the glass securely in the frame.
A GullWing Anchoring System attaches the security window film to the frame using a proprietary tape system. The tape is incredibly strong, preventing the glass from popping out of the frame, even after it’s broken. This makes it an effective blast and forced entry protection tool.
Both security window film and bulletproof glass offer increased resilience to security threats. They are both excellent at slowing down an intruder and making it more difficult for them to break through the glass. However, because security window film is designed to hold broken glass in place, it is very thin and light and not capable of stopping bullets. Our security window film is tested to a variety of standards.
Bulletproof glass is designed to stop bullets, making it thicker and heavier than other glazing products as a result. Bulletproof glass is available in a variety of different makeups so you have options based on your budget, security profile, and facility location. Our bulletproof glass is tested to the UL 752 Standard for Bullet-Resisting Equipment, among others.
We often recommend using bulletproof glass and security window film in tandem—bulletproof glass is ideal for protecting people and window film for protecting property.
There are some security window film products that claim to have bullet-resisting capabilities. However, consumers and specifiers might not notice the products’ actual capabilities without having an in-depth understanding of how ballistic products are tested, rated, and expected to perform. For example, we often see standard security window film promoted as offering bullet-resistance, but the existing unit must be dismantled so installers can add many, many layers to the glass. Other window film products claim to offer bullet-resistance, but only on glass that is substantially thicker than most commercial glass windows. Or, some products are described as “somewhat bullet-resistant,” or even “not quite bullet-resistant,” a misleading statement that fails to obscure the truth: films do not stop bullets.
If you are looking for a product that offers protection against bullets, look for testing information from a reputable standard, such as the UL 752. Our bulletproof products are tested to this standard so you can trust that products will perform as expected.
When our customers started asking if security window film could be a functional substitute for bulletproof glass, we worked on developing a film solution that would stop bullets. And we did develop a bullet-resistant window film solution—but it was cumbersome. The most feasible bulletproof security window film required applying many layers of polyester film to existing windows, effectively becoming a thermoplastic panel. This panel was able to stop shots from some handguns, but not high-powered rifles. Also, the many layers of film reduced the windows’ clarity and visibility. So, while the film solution could provide some bullet resistance, it was functionally not as practical, economical, or feasible as backglazing.
Most films that claim some level of bullet resistance have similar characteristics—they require many layers and may even only be able to perform when adhered to glass that’s thicker than what’s typically installed in commercial buildings. This means there is additional pressure on consumers, contractors, and security professionals to understand film products’ capabilities and limitations. System performance also depends on the existing glass, and there is no guarantee the customer's existing glass will be of the same quality or type used for testing. Bulletproof glass is consistent and trustworthy, every time. If a glass layer is swapped out for a different manufacturer within a bullet-resistant assembly, there is retesting, even if there is no thickness change, so you can get protection you can trust, no matter what.
At TSS, we will always be straightforward about what film can do and make trustworthy recommendations about how to use it and why. Our philosophy is to use bulletproof glass to protect people and film to protect property.
In addition to its protective qualities, our security window film offers other benefits.

Security window film is a clear sheet of polyester and adhesives that can be applied to windows, offering protection from forced entry, blast, and other attacks.
Yes! Security window film is an effective way to delay an intruder because when a window is shot, struck, or broken, the film holds the glass together, making it difficult to gain entry. Security window film does not stop bullets.
At TSS, security window film projects start at $5,000. To get a quote for your unique situation, please contact us.
The film installation method depends on the type of protection you need. For example, if you want blast protection, the film will need to be anchored to the window frame. To learn more about your film installation options, please contact us.
